#BayelsaDecides: No Sporadic Gunshots In Ekeremor - Police

The Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said there was no heavy shooting in Ekeremor town that allegedly led to the killing of two soldiers and two civilians during the gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa.

According to Lokpobiri, the conduct of the election in Ekeremor was peaceful, orderly, and without violence.
Lompobiri’s aide Preye Amba said the minister voted at about 12.10pm in Ekeremor and that the reported killing of security personnel in Ekeremor is false. According to him, it was intended to attempt to cancel elections again.

“[The] election in Ekeremor went on peacefully and the resort to this [rumors of violence] by the PDP is just a way of laying the foundation to cancel the supplementary poll. No shooting whatsoever in Ekeremor,” Lokpobiri’s aide said.
The police public relations officer for Baylesa state, Asinim Butswat, also confirmed that early reports of the shooting were untrue.

Earlier, Leadership reported that armed thugs have hijacked security process within the area, bringing all electoral activities to a halt.
Also, in Southern Ijaw local government, precisely in Amassoma Grammar School, men of the Joint Task Force have repelled efforts by armed political thugs who attempted to hijack electoral materials meant for some units in the ward.

The incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson will be hoping that his party the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win in the dreaded Southern Ijaw area of the state, where the elections were declared inconclusive last year due to reports of violence.
