Nigeria had to come from behind to defeat
Mexico 4-2 in Friday's semi final game at the Fifa U17 World Cup. El Tri
took the lead via Kevin Magana.
However, Kelechi Nwakali equalized for the
Golden Eaglets with a free kick that left goalkeeper Romero stranded in
acres of space. Orji Okonkwo then scored from 30 yards to give Nigeria a
2-1 lead into the break.
But it was Mexico that came back with greater
determination as Diego Cortes scored what could be the goal of the
tournament when he waltzed through five players to score and make it
2-2.
But Nigeria were not done as Osinachi Ebere
got them back in front with 15 minutes left to play before Victor
Osimhen then sent a cross to right back John Lazarus in the box to earn a
penalty. Osimhen stepped up to convert if for 4-2 on 86 minutes.
It was Osimhen's 9th goal of the tournament
as he equalled the record set by Florent Sinama Pongolle (2001) and
Souleymane Coulibaly (2009)
